Someplace in our primordial past a dog wandered into a human encampment and was given an old bone to chew on - and he stayed, jumping up and down and kissing the person who tossed him his bone. It became our first house pet and our dearest non-human companion.
The dog is our most loving and affectionate friend. He/she gives love and affection and to the hunter service in exchange for enough to eat, a place to stay and an occasional pat and caress.
There are no bounds and no questions to a dogs love. It is totally unstinting and asks but little in return. Even better, it is totally uncritical. It never argues with you or criticizes or orders you around. I know of no man or woman who has a loving and affectionate dog who is unhappy. I know of no person who has a dog that jumps into his lap kissing his or her face who does not feel better for its affection.
What would we do without them
